Eagle Builders worked with Jade Bay to design, manufacture, and build a precast concrete and structural steel office and processing facility for Jealous Fruits. With an extensive project scope and unique requirements, it was essential that the building design perfectly accommodated their state-of-the-art cherry equipment while maximizing their workflow efficiencies.
This facility required specific precast pieces with special cutouts that would work in conjunction with Jealous Fruits’ equipment layout. We were able to complete this in our manufacturing plant in advance rather than on-site, which increased productivity and reduced the installation timeline. Within the processing facility, the thermal efficiencies of precast panels benefited the facility’s freezers and coolers. Inside the building, hollow core was cleverly used, helping to accommodate different floor heights requested by the client while minimizing the building height. Another distinctive feature of this facility highlights the beautiful outdoors of Kelowna with an enclosed patio area on the second floor. This project was completed on time and on budget.
“The finished product is such a beautiful building to work with. We anticipate very little maintenance; it is very clean. Basically, paint the exterior and you’re done. There is no need to deal with adding siding or insulation or anything else, it’s all in the shell which is really nice. For our application where we are processing fruit, it is really important to keep the building clean and keep everything sanitary, so precast concrete in my opinion is the best material to use.”
